O2 employees contribute to help Haiti
All Telefónica Europe branches have initiated an employee collection to help the victims of this natural catastrophe. The company will then increase the total donations of all European employees by 100%. The O2 Foundation will transfer the proceeds of the Czech employee contributions to People in Need.
“Since January 15, when the collection was announced, nearly 250 employees have contributed. The gain of the collection exceeded more than CZK 210 thousand at this moment and the amount is increasing every hour. O2 employees have once again shown that they are not indifferent to the lives of others – not last year when contributing towards helping flood victims, and not this year when helping the distant country of Haiti. We are pleased that selfless assistance is a common and natural thing for most of our employees,” says Jiří Šuchman, Director for External Relations, Telefónica, and a member of the Supervisory Board of the O2 Foundation.
The O2 Foundation has a long history of cooperation with the People in Need organization during extraordinary events such as devastating calamities, natural catastrophes, etc.
People in Need is receiving proceeds from the contributions of partner organizations from the international Alliance 2015, of which it is a member, for immediate humanitarian aid and the provision of essential life needs. Its partners have been active in Haiti for a long time and, for instance, took part in providing assistance after the hurricane of 2008. People in Need has also sent an experienced coordinator who has become a member of a team of partner humanitarian organizations to Haiti.
