Paediatric Transplantation Unit of the Motol University Hospital Acquires New Life Function Monitors Thanks to Telefónica Employees
Prague – O2 Foundation donated CZK 320,305 raised by O2 employees to the paediatric transplantation unit at the Department of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology of Motol University Hospital today. In total 718 Telefónica employees contributed to the collection. A symbolical cheque was handed over to Vladimír Komrska, head physician at the Department of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology of Motol University Hospital. The donation made it possible to buy special life function monitors.
The collection organized by the O2 Foundation was initiated by one of the O2 employees – Ms. M., who spent several months at the transplantation unit with her son, who became ill with leukaemia shortly after his birth. Even though her son lost his fight for life last September, our colleague was looking for a way to appreciate the excellent work of physicians and nurses who – during their very difficult work shifts – take care of children suffering from carcinological diseases.
„As it is necessary to administer incredible amounts of medicaments required after bone marrow transplantations and for the ongoing treatment, the nurses work incredibly hard 24 hours a day, night operation is no different from the operation during the day. The department is hermetically closed and apart from child’s mum nobody can enter the patient’s room,” explains her experience Ms.M. “The Prague transplantation unit is at the top in Europe, unfortunately, they have to face a permanent lack of funds. I want to say “thank you” to all my O2 colleagues for their solidarity and generosity. Even though my little son could not be saved, there is hope for many other children,” said Ms. M. who was present with her newborn son.
On top of the money raised in the employee collection, the O2 Foundation contributed by mobile telephones that were handed over as gifts to the nurses to recognize their difficult work at the transplantation unit.
