MIŠ – Minimisation of Bullying

Recent surveys indicate that 40% of pupils at Czech schools have encountered bullying. We want to help and change this alarming situation. Bullying is a serious disease of democracy within a group. Its all-society impacts, frequent incidence and missing systemic solution inspired us and we laid foundations to a three-year project for Minimisation of Bullying at Schools (MIŠ) in 2005.

We believe that an effective way to stop this epidemic of violence is to create a welcoming social atmosphere at school and implement a special programme against bullying. Nowadays, we often hear about increasing violence among children and young people. Our objective is to develop open communication on individual levels at schools. We want teachers to be able to identify possible symptoms of bullying and know how to deal with them to minimize the numbers victims of bullying.

The three-year pilot phase of the project finished in 2007. The schools that had participated in the MIŠ educational programme were also successful in decreasing the incidence of bullying.

Our support did not end with the pilot project. We continue to promote the Minimisation of Bullying programme at other schools and open a public discussion on bullying at schools. Newly, we also pay attention to the new phenomenon of “cyber bulling”.
