Pavel Kříž

Actor and psychotherapist

Though at first sight it might seem that his interest in medicine had not been provoked until he starred in the famous film series about “poets,” he had been thinking about medical career right from a basic school. In Brno, the town where he was born, he wished to attend a grammar school, but was not allowed to due to political reasons. He became a photographer and actor in a children’s acting group “Pírko” and in the children studio of Divadlo na Provázku. Only after he started to shoot the “poets” series, he returned to medicine. In 1987, he emigrated to Canada, where he studied psychotherapy at a university in Vancouver. After graduation he worked in nursing homes. He returned to the Czech Republic in 1993 for the first time. He is a Czech and Canadian citizen.

After returning to the Czech Republic, he did not avoid medical topics. He cooperated with the Czech TV on a TV series “Managing One’s Own Health” broadcast weekly for almost two years.

He returned to film making in 1993, when the fourth film of the “poets” series was shot (KONEC BÁSNÍKŮ V ČECHÁCH) followed by the so far the last – fifth – film in 2005. Besides the “poets” saga, Pavel Kříž appeared in numerous film roles, to name just a few ANDĚLSKÉ OČI (1993), VŮNĚ VANILKY (2002) or I VE SMRTI SAMI (2003), BRAINSTORM (2008), his most recent film was AŤ ŽIJÍ RYTÍŘI (2009). Since 2005 he appears in the role of Petr Boháč in the popular TV series ULICE. Besides films, Pavel also appeared on the stage of the National Theatre.

His membership in the Board of Trustees of O2 Foundation is an expression of his lasting interest in social topics in the society. He has been cooperating with the O2 Foundation since 2002. His membership function in the foundation is honorary. According to his own words, he thinks highly of the foundation’s work as the foundation is not afraid of supporting marginal topics that are out of focus of sponsors’ interest.

His leisure activities include boxing and kung-fu, he likes walking an swimming.
